Why choose the School of Thought for your child's early education?

A home environment provides a cozy and comfortable feel. Children are able to spend their days playing in the backyard, learning in a playroom, reading on a couch, eating snacks and meals family style, and being with friends of different ages. All of these elements provide a home away from home.

Fewer children in an educational program keep the atmosphere calm and more conducive to learning. The School of Thought's philosophy and curriculum are a blend of many different ideologies. Children are able to learn by experiencing the world around them through observing nature, reading high quality books, using a methodical phonics and math instruction, and having plenty of unstructured time to explore their own interests.

How do I know my child will be safe and secure?

Safety is top priority. It begins with preventative measures like having an Emergency Preparedness Plan in place for fire, tornadoes, etc. Daily checks of the property prevent hazards. Outdoor cameras, registered alarm system directly connected to emergency services, smoke alarms, CPR/First Aide training, and locked doors ensure daily safety.

Children that attend must be fully vaccinated based on the American Academy of Pediatrics in order to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Routinely washing hands, using sunscreen/bug spray, and having high quality air filters prevents illness even further.

Thorough background checks are made for caregivers/teachers, household members, volunteers, and any contracted person such as a music teacher. Teachers have constant training in preventing and recognizing child maltreatment, too.

How will my child spend the day?

Children will follow a basic schedule for learning, play, meals, and rest. Throughout the day there will be structured and unstructured time for learning and exploring.

The School of Thought blends many philosophies of child development and growth. Jean Piaget, Maria Montessori, Charlotte Mason, and psychology's cognitive behaviorism all have their strengths in understanding and enriching children's lives.

Children are sensitive to the world around them and need time to explore as well as engage in meaningful lessons.

Exploring natural curiosity creates enthusiasm in learning. For example, learning about colors by examining flowers or butterflies is more engaging than only coloring a picture. Blending lessons across different subjects allows children to see how the world works together.

"Look what I made!"

Happiness is homemade.
